Macon's Address for Volunteering!

Welcome to Volunteer Macon!

Volunteer Macon encourages volunteer effort directed at Macon's serious social problems and other priority needs. To volunteer, call Volunteer Macon at 742-6677.

The Youth Volunteer Corps of Macon and Middle Georgia is a not for profit network of programs that offer young people ages 11 to 18, the opportunity to improve their community through volunteering. Our wish is to provide our volunteers with an experience that is challenging, rewarding and educational. We want to encourage our youth to learn about their community and its diversity while developing important job-related skills. Just give us a call or email and we will design a volunteer experience for you and/or your group. Amy Davidson, CVA 478/742-6677

Volunteer Opportunities may be found in Special Events or Projects. Contact information for each opportunity is included. First Give A Day volunteers at Disney World are from Volunteer Macon!
Hello, I just wanted to share a quick picture of us and to let you know that we are going to send a more formal “thank you” to Hands on Macon and to the Disney program. The attached picture is our group with our race medals and our volunteer pins on in front of Disney World on Monday.
First, the customer service individuals at Disney stated we were her “first” volunteers to come through….she clapped and retrieved our “Honorary Volunteer” pins. Throughout the day, Disney employees thanked us and we were hooked up with small benefits….free ice cream! We had an amazing day at Disney and we were so happy that we had the opportunity to partake in this program.
Thank you so much for all your help! Karly

VOLUNTEER RELIEF EFFORTS ON THE GULF COAST

Thirteen volunteer centers serving the spill-impacted states of Alabama, Mississippi, Florida and Louisiana, and the Hands On Network have committed to recruit and train 10,000 volunteer leaders and mobilize 50,000 volunteers to devote an expected 1 million hours to support the region's environment and economic recovery.

The Hands On Network will conduct a series of on-the-ground and virtual "boot camps" to train volunteer leaders to manage others and develop projects to meet community-specific needs such as creating job re-training and job search clinics; restoring damaged housing, parks and outdoor spaces; and assisting small businesses in operations, marketing and finance to recoup losses or impove business sustainability. Those who want to learn more about these opportunities should visit www.handsonnetwork.org/nola2011, or contact Volunteer Macon at 478/742-6677.

This disaster is unusually complex in terms of volunteer deployment. Many of the oil-related issues require extensive training and special skills, particularly to assist with the oil spill remediation and to resolve specific health concerns associated with the environmental cleanup. However, there are many other ways that volunteers can help, particularly with the huge social service needs that have been amplified with the recent disaster. In many ways, the area is still recovering from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, so some of the greatest needs are with the families dealing with the ongoing economic impact of the situation.

Volunteer Macon wins First Place in the YVC AmeriCorps Video Contest!

The video was included in a presentation at the 2009 AmeriCorps Best Practices Conference in Washington, D.C. Congratulations to Kevin Barrere, Amy Davidson, Evelyn Bryant-Banks, Jamal Freeman, Rashad Fuller, and Aulona Graham-Simms on a job well done!
